Summer 2024
Surrealism connects. It connects art and literature. It connects Tartu with Prague. It even connects Paris with Tallinn. Surrealism connects art and life. It connects generations. Artists. Countries and (art) histories. Surrealism comes and goes (in and out of fashion), and then comes again. Its eternal return always signals that once again we have the good fortune of living in fascinating times…
In this issue, Raivo Kelomees, Heie Marie Treier, Marten Esko, Harry Bellet, Johannes Saar, Priit Koppel, Andrus Tamm, Johanna Jolen Kuzmenko, Oliver Laas, Hanna Sipos, Jaana Davidjants, Brigit Arop, Maris Karjatse and Sandra Jõgeva write about art.
And the issue ends – or starts, if you choose to flip through it in reverse – with two thematic supplements. In the first, Kadi-Ell Tähiste, head of the Association of Estonian Art Institutions, provides an overview of the latest developments in Estonian cultural policy supporting creative work. The second supplement highlights experimentation in art criticism: Welcome to prologue school! From the school’s writing group meetings convened by Maarin Ektermann this year, the final selection includes pieces by Janne Lias, Maret Sarapu, Maria Muuk and Helmi Marie Langsepp.
And for those who still haven’t heard the buzz, the easiest way to read the Estonian art quarterly Kunst.ee is to get an annual subscription online through tellimine.ee, and the latest issue will be delivered straight to your mailbox. Subscribers to the print edition can read the e-version for free through the kultuurileht.ee portal.
Stay tuned!
