Editorial

Winter 2023

You are holding the latest issue of the Estonian art quarterly KUNST.EE. Art knows no borders, and the same artistic currents that shape exhibition spaces globally are also evident in Estonia. In this edition, we discuss noteworthy exhibitions that will go down in local art history, such as the retrospective showcasing the works of renowned Estonian women printmakers at Kumu Art Museum, but we also explore exhibitions where creators cast their gaze towards the future, grappling with the aftermath of the post-digital era and the Anthropocene. It’s no doubt a dark time, but is there a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel?

Posing questions are Brigit Arop, Katrin Kivimaa, Johanna Jolen Kuzmenko, Ketlin Käpp, Andreas Trossek, Triinu Soikmets, Andrus Laansalu, Meelis Friedenthal, Elnara Taidre, Gregor Kulla, Kaire Nurk, Erkki Luuk, Tõnu Karjatse, Linnar Priimägi, Margaret Tali and Birgit Tohter.

The issue concludes – or begins, should you flip this volume upside down – with a thematic extra in which Elin Kard, the President of the Estonian Artists’ Association, provides an overview of the ongoing awareness campaign “Health Insurance for All!”.

Stay tuned!
