Summer 2021
Is it over? Is it continuing? Indeed, how does history take shape in the first place? How big is the step from pride to shame? Who dares to pick up a lizard? How should we treat classics, both living and dead? And what happens when you attempt to re-actualise the work of a timeless classic in today’s context – is failure inevitable? To whom does the revolution “belong”, whether or not it is considered successful in retrospect? How does individual memory work – can it be trusted? And are objects somehow more “genuine” than documentations of them?
They say art is larger than life, but that is just one reason to get yourself this issue of KUNST.EE, the art quarterly devoted to various aspects of contemporary art and visual culture in Estonia. All other reasons are already rather more specific, inviting the reader to delve into an artwork, follow the artist and to critically consider the results.
In this issue, questions in the field of art are posed by Johannes Saar, Kaire Nurk, Stefan Peetri, Kaisa Eiche, Andri Ksenofontov, Margus Tamm, Ingrid Ruudi, Matti Tuomela and Eik Hermann. Questions, questions, questions…
