Letters to my father from America

Sandra Jõgeva’s report on the 2011 American tour by the artist group, Art Container

 
Every time I’m on the road I send daily e-mails to my parents. I try to schedule this for the morning in Estonia, so that they can print out my letters and read them while drinking their morning coffee. Clearly, there is a certain sense of guilt involved in my systematic writing, as my parents could not put themselves or their work to the test outside the borders of the Soviet Union (Sandra Jõgeva is the daughter of well-known Estonian artists Malle Leis and Villu Jõgeva. – Ed.). Also, the letters to my parents have certainly gone through some self-censorship and a softness filter; after all, you have to show your parents that you are staying and working in a safe environment.
